A long horizontal canvas split into two moods: on the left a tall yellow rectangle and a yellow-ringed grey disc sit among thin straight lines, while on the right a large blue circle, a black wavy line and overlapping violet and red planes crowd together above a lilac cloud. Small checkerboards, grids and arcs are scattered across a pale yellow ground. Kandinsky painted it in 1925, the year the Bauhaus moved from Weimar to Dessau, while he was teaching there and developing his theory that particular colours belong with particular forms, yellow with the sharp and angular, blue with the round and deep. The title names the three colours that carry the composition. The painting stayed with the artist's widow, Nina Kandinsky, who gave it to the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris in 1976; it is in the collection of the Centre Pompidou.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.

Size. We'd hang this one at 36×24. Prints at 18×12, 24×16, 36×24 in — 18×12 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 24×16 above a console or sideboard; 36×24 as the statement piece above a sofa or headboard.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — natural wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
