A single dark figure trudges through a snowy street at night toward a house whose windows glow gold, the snow and the sky merging into one grey haze. Whistler painted the scene near his home in Chelsea, London, in 1876, using thin, liquid paint on a coarse canvas whose weave shows through. The only warm colour is the lamplight in the windows. It came to Harvard's Fogg Museum in 1943 with the bequest of Grenville L. Winthrop.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.

Size. We'd hang this one at 16×12. Prints at 16×12 in — 16×12 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
