Two women in dark dresses and wide hats, their hair and feathers drawn in flowing Art Nouveau curves, lean over a list of sales against a pale ground, under the lettering of Le Journal des Ventes, the Brussels auction paper. De Feure designed the poster in 1897 for the paper of the auctioneers Ch. Vos et Cie, in the swirling, sombre manner of his Symbolist drawings. This is the reduced version issued in 1898 as plate 146 of Les Maîtres de l'Affiche, printed by Chaix in Paris. The impression reproduced is from the Bibliothèque nationale de France's copy of the series.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
