A winged young woman in white sits on a rock against a dark sky, her arms resting on her knees. Thayer painted it in memory of the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson, author of Treasure Island, who had died in Samoa in 1894, and it is one of the most solemn of his angel pictures. It is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
