Fishermen haul a heavy white dory up the rocks on Monhegan Island, Maine, under a stormy sky, the figures and boat simplified into bold blocks of colour. Bellows first went to Monhegan in 1911, and his paintings of its cliffs and fishermen are some of his boldest. It is in the New Britain Museum of American Art, Connecticut.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A bold coastal scene in blue, ochre and white for a living room, study or coastal house in a dark wood frame. It suits white or navy walls and pairs with Homer's Maine pictures.
