A young woman in a pale gown sits with a book open on her knee, her red hair crowned with flowers, inside a circle of blossom, under the lettering of the printer F. Champenois, imprimeur-éditeur, 66 boulevard Saint-Michel, Paris. Mucha designed the poster in 1897 for the lithographic printer who held him under contract and printed almost all his Paris posters, and the same figure was reissued without lettering as the decorative panel Rêverie. It is the clearest statement of his style: the circle, the flowers, the hair and the gentle face. The impression reproduced is in the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
