A blonde woman in white, lilies in her hair, stands amid tall stems of pink and white lilies in a narrow upright panel. Mucha designed it in Paris in 1898 as one of The Flowers, a set of four colour lithographs, Rose, Iris, Carnation and Lily, printed by F. Champenois and sold for framing. He had already shown watercolour versions of two of the designs at the Salon des Cent in 1897. The lily, the flower of purity, receives the palest and most upright figure of the group, and the whole panel is kept to whites and soft greens. The flowers are rendered with the botanical care of a plate rather than the flat stylisation of his posters. The series proved so popular that a smaller combined version was issued, and the panels have been reprinted ever since.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
