A slender nude woman stands in a misty clearing, head bowed, holding a small box to her chest, the outline of her body drawn in reddish strokes. Around her bloom imaginary flowers in red, coral, blue and black, and a bare branching tree rises into a turquoise sky above. In Greek myth Pandora was the first woman, who opened the jar that released the evils of the world. Redon painted the tall, narrow canvas in oil around 1914, two years before his death. It came to the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a bequest from Alexander M. Bing in 1959.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
