A red-haired woman in a pale dress sits among the white flower-heads of a snowball bush, a viburnum, against a soft green ground, her hair and the flowers drawn in the same gentle curve. Berthon made the colour lithograph around 1900 as a decorative panel, one of the flower-and-maiden prints he published in the manner of Grasset, his teacher, and it was sold to be framed rather than posted. The impression reproduced belongs to the Cleveland Museum of Art.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A red-haired figure among white blossom on soft green, horizontal, for a bedroom, bathroom or above a dresser at 24×18 or 32×24 in thin black or dark wood, no mat. It suits a white or sage wall and pairs with Berthon's Salon des Cent.

Size. We'd hang this one at 24×18. Prints at 16×12, 24×18, 32×24 in — 16×12 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 24×18 above a console or sideboard; 32×24 as the statement piece above a sofa or headboard.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
