The contralto Weda Cook stands on a bare stage in a pink satin gown, singing, with a bouquet of roses at her feet and only the hand of a conductor visible at the lower left. Eakins had her sing Mendelssohn's 'O rest in the Lord' while he painted, so that he could get the shape of her mouth and throat right, and the opening bars are carved on the original frame. It is in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A tall pink-and-olive figure for a music room, hallway or bedroom in a dark wood frame. It is a fine gift for a singer and suits soft green, blush or warm grey walls.

Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — black suits the deep tones of this period; dark wood warms it.
