A tall, narrow orchard after rain: white and black hens peck across wet green grass under thin grey-brown fruit trees, with tiny pink flowers at the lower left and a misty grey-green hillside closing the view. The palette is soft and damp, almost without shadow. Klimt painted it in 1898 at Sankt Agatha near Hallstatt lake, where he spent his first summer in the Salzkammergut with the Flöge family; it is one of four landscapes from that stay and shows the pull of French Impressionism and Japanese woodcuts. In 1900 it became the first work by Klimt to enter the Belvedere's collection.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Soft greens, misty grey and white hens give a gentle country picture for a kitchen, breakfast nook or narrow hallway on a white or pale green wall. Pair it with Klimt's Portrait of Emilie Flöge, hung at 12×18 in a dark wood frame.

Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
