Fritza Riedler sits upright in a chair upholstered in a pattern of eye shapes, her white ruffled dress filling the lower half of the canvas, her pale face and dark hair set against an orange-red wall dotted with small silver squares. A mosaic arch of coloured tiles crowns her head, and a gold panel runs down the left side. Klimt painted her in 1906; she was the wife of a wealthy mechanical engineer. The portrait was first shown in 1907 at the Kunsthalle Mannheim alongside The Three Ages and Adele Bloch-Bauer I, and it now hangs in the Belvedere in Vienna.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Orange-red, white and gold make a striking portrait for a dining room, living room or hallway on a white, charcoal or terracotta wall. Pair it with Adele Bloch-Bauer I by Klimt, shown beside it in 1907, hung at 16×24 in a black frame.

Size. We'd hang this one at 16×24. Prints at 12×18, 16×24 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
