Three figures stand in a narrow column against a mottled brown and silver-flecked ground: an old woman with grey hair falling over her face, her head bowed into her hand, and beside her a young mother with flowers in her hair, eyes closed, cradling a sleeping child. Behind them run bands of gold, orange and blue pattern, and a black block crosses the top of the canvas. Klimt finished the painting in 1905 and showed it that year in Berlin at the second exhibition of the Deutscher Künstlerbund, under the title The Three Ages. It is in the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Silver-flecked browns, a black band and a narrow seam of gold suit a calm bedroom, study or landing on a warm grey or deep green wall. Pair it with Friedrich's The Stages of Life, hung at 24×36 in a black frame.

Size. We'd hang this one at 24×36. Prints at 12×18, 16×24, 24×36 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway; 24×36 as the statement piece above a sofa or bed.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
