Three girls in white, red and green lean on the railing of a pale pink bridge with their backs to us, looking down into dark water. Beyond them a white wall, a stately house and a dark dome-shaped tree stand against a pale blue sky, with a small yellow moon low on the left. The view is towards Åsgårdstrand, the coastal village where Munch bought a small house in 1898 and found local models. First shown in Kristiania in 1901 as Summer Evening, it is the first of several versions of the motif and hangs in the National Museum of Norway.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Pale pink, sky blue and deep green with three bright dresses make a calm, summery picture for a living room, hallway or landing. Pair it with Munch's The Scream, which shares the diagonal railing, at 24×36 in a dark wood frame.

Size. We'd hang this one at 24×36. Prints at 12×18, 16×24, 24×36 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway; 24×36 as the statement piece above a sofa or bed.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
