A young woman with a mass of orange-red hair sits on the ground, resting her cheek on one raised knee in a dark stocking and looking straight out; she wears a deep green top and a white petticoat, and her other leg falls aside. Around her there is nothing but the cream paper. Schiele made the sheet in 1917 in gouache, watercolour and black crayon, with stiff, visibly dragged strokes and sharp, broken outlines. The palette is held to cream, white, black, green, red and orange. It belongs to the National Gallery Prague, in its collection of works on paper.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Orange hair, deep green and black stockings on bare cream paper make a striking single figure for a bedroom, dressing room or study. Pair it with Toulouse-Lautrec's Jane Avril at 12×18 in a black frame.

Size. We'd hang this one at 12×18. Prints at 12×18, 16×24 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
