An old violin and bow hang on a dark green door against a torn sheet of music, beside a key, a hinge and a pinned photograph. Peto followed his friend Harnett in painting the same subject, but with a softer, more melancholy touch and worn, broken objects. It is in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A muted green trompe-l'oeil violin for a music room or study in a dark wood frame. It suits deep green or warm grey walls and pairs with Harnett's Old Violin.
