A crowd with coloured umbrellas crosses a bridge in Venice in the rain, the figures reduced to bright dabs of watercolour against the white stone. Prendergast spent 1898–99 in Venice, and the watercolours he made there of crowds on bridges and piazzas made his name. This one is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A cheerful watercolour of umbrellas and crowds for a hallway, kitchen or child's room in a thin black frame. It suits white walls and pairs with Piazza di San Marco.
