A lone scout on a dark horse sits at the top of a snowy rise under a pale night sky, looking out at the faint lights of a distant camp and deciding whether it is friendly. In his last years Remington turned to moonlit scenes like this, using cool blues and greens to suggest night and silence rather than action. The figure and his shadow are the only dark shapes in a field of blue-white snow. The painting is at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A cool blue-and-white snow nocturne for a study, den or cabin in a black or dark wood frame. It suits navy, slate or warm white walls at 12×18 and pairs with Remington's The Fall of the Cowboy.
