Pale birch trunks, ringed with black and grey and wrapped in green moss at their bases, stand across a forest floor carpeted in orange and russet leaves, with a few blue flowers and green shoots in the lower right. The trees recede in rows to a band of green at the top, leaving no sky at all. Klimt painted it in 1903. It once belonged to Adele and Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, and Christie's sold it in November 2006. In 2022 it sold again with the collection of Paul Allen for $104.6 million, then a record for a Klimt. It is in a private collection.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Orange leaf litter under pale trunks and moss green makes a warm, quiet picture for a study, bedroom or hallway on a cream or forest green wall. Pair it with Van Gogh's Olive Trees, hung at 16×24 in a dark wood frame.

Size. We'd hang this one at 16×24. Prints at 12×18, 16×24 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
