A woman in an embroidered high-necked dress, a headdress of red chrysanthemums in her hair, holds a bowl of autumn fruit in a tall, narrow panel. Mucha designed it in Paris in 1900 as part of his third set of The Seasons, following the sets of 1896 and 1897, each a group of four vertical panels personifying Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, printed as colour lithographs by F. Champenois. The 1900 series is more compact and upright than the first, with the figures filling the frame and the ornament reduced to a plain border. The year was that of the Paris Exposition Universelle, for which Mucha decorated the Bosnia-Herzegovina pavilion, and it marks the peak of his Paris career before he turned toward the Slav subjects of his later work.
