Two young women in white, with a green parasol, lie in the grass of an Alpine meadow at the Simplon Pass, one teasing the other. Sargent spent summers in the Alps with his sisters and nieces before the First World War and painted them in watercolour, outdoors and fast, the white paper left bare for the sunlit dresses. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, bought a large group of these watercolours directly from him in 1912, this one among them.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A sunlit watercolour of white dresses in green grass for a bedroom, bathroom or summer house, framed in thin black. It brightens a white or pale green wall and pairs with The Sketchers.

Size. Prints at 16×12, 24×18, 32×24 in — 16×12 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 24×18 above a console or sideboard; 32×24 as the statement piece above a sofa or headboard.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
