Four dancers in a row kick up their skirts in a chorus-line quadrille: Jane Avril, Cléopâtre, Églantine and Gazelle, the troupe that Mademoiselle Églantine took to the Palace Theatre in London in 1896. Jane Avril asked Toulouse-Lautrec for the poster and sent him a photograph of the four to work from; he drew them in a single sweep of yellow, red and black across a horizontal sheet, with their names lettered below. The printer was Ancourt. It is one of his rare landscape-format posters and the last he made for Avril's circle before the 1899 Jane Avril. The impression reproduced is in the Bibliothèque de l'INHA in Paris.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.

Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
