Under a yellow sky and a low sun, workers in blue bend among vines that have turned crimson and orange with autumn, while a river reflects the light at the left and a cart waits on the road. Van Gogh painted it in Arles in November 1888, from memory of a walk with Gauguin a few days earlier, and described it in a letter as entirely red, like red wine, with yellow in the distance and a green sky. It was shown in Brussels with Les XX in 1890 and bought there for 400 francs by the painter Anna Boch, the sister of his friend Eugène; it is the only painting he is documented as having sold in his lifetime. The Moscow collector Ivan Morozov bought it in 1909, and it is in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts.
This exhibition-poster edition shows the whole work beneath original typography set in-house. The original is in the public domain.
