A young woman in grey-blue drapery, the personification of autumn, stands in profile with one hand pressed to her chest, against a twilight landscape of bare trees and a pale river. Benson painted her in 1895 as the companion to Spring, in the cool, harmonised colours of his decorative work of the 1890s, and the two panels were bought together by the Rhode Island School of Design Museum in 1897.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A cool, reflective figure in slate blue, grey and soft flesh tones for a bedroom or study in a dark wood frame. It hangs well as a pair with Benson's Spring on a grey-blue or stone-coloured wall.

Size. Prints at 12×18, 16×24 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
