A young woman in a loose white dress, the personification of spring, reaches out to touch pink blossoms on a branch, with a pale stream and green fields behind her in the soft light of dusk. Benson painted the pair of Spring and Autumn in 1895, when he was making decorative figure pictures and murals in the manner of the Aesthetic Movement, shortly before he painted the Seasons and the Graces for the new Library of Congress building in 1896. The Rhode Island School of Design Museum acquired both panels in 1897.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
A soft, decorative figure in green, white and blossom pink for a bedroom or sitting room in a dark wood frame. It hangs well as a pair with Benson's Autumn on a sage or pale grey wall.

Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
