Two boys in straw hats sit side by side in a sunny summer pasture, one hugging his knees, the other leaning back, with a line of trees under a pale turquoise sky behind them. Homer painted many such pictures of country children in the early 1870s, and they were among his most popular works in his lifetime. The broad field of green grass and wildflowers takes up most of the canvas, so the two small figures read as part of the landscape. The painting is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
