Three boys and a fisherman sail a small catboat, the Gloucester, through choppy green water off the New England coast, the boat heeling in a stiff breeze and a schooner on the horizon. Homer worked on the picture for three years after a summer at Gloucester, Massachusetts, and it was the hit of the National Academy of Design exhibition in 1876. It is in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
This full-bleed edition prints the work edge to edge from a high-resolution scan of the original, very slightly cropped (a few percent at most) to fit the sheet. The gallery edition shows the whole work, uncropped. The original is in the public domain.
