Serena Pulitzer Lederer stands full length in a long white gown that dissolves into soft lilac and grey strokes, her dark hair piled up, her cheeks flushed, and a faint smile on her face. The ground behind her is a pale mist of grey, cream and pink. Klimt painted the tall, narrow canvas in 1899; she and her husband, the industrialist August Lederer, were among his early patrons and went on to form a leading private collection of his work. The portrait was impounded by the Nazis in 1942 and returned to her son in 1948. It is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Whites, lilac and pale grey make a quiet, luminous portrait for a bedroom, dressing room or narrow hallway wall in soft white or blush. Pair it with The White Girl by Whistler, hung at 12×18 in a black frame.

Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
