A single sunflower stands in the centre of a square canvas, its gold head bowed and its heavy grey-green leaves hanging down like a cloak over a mound of red, violet, white and yellow garden flowers at its foot. Behind it a hedge of blue-green dabs, sprinkled with white blossoms, fills the canvas to the edges. Klimt painted it in 1907–08, one of only two paintings of his to show sunflowers. The critic Ludwig Hevesi called it a "fairy in love". It came to the Belvedere in Vienna in 2012 as a bequest from Peter Parzer.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
Where it works
Blue-green leaves with a bowed gold head and a burst of garden colour suit a kitchen, sitting room or sunny hallway on a white or pale sage wall. Pair it with Van Gogh's Sunflowers from the Van Gogh Museum, hung at 16×24 in a dark wood frame.

Size. We'd hang this one at 16×24. Prints at 12×18, 16×24, 24×36 in — 12×18 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 16×24 above a desk, console or in a hallway; 24×36 as the statement piece above a sofa or bed.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
