Four panels, each with a woman in a landscape framed by an ornamental arch like a Gothic window: Morning Awakening, seated in pink on a tree as the day begins; Brightness of Day, raising her arms amid yellow daisies under full sun; Evening Contemplation, leaning among pale trees under a pink sky; and Night's Rest, asleep with closed eyes beneath thin trees in moonlight. Mucha designed the set in Paris in 1899, and F. Champenois printed it as colour lithographs for framing, following the success of The Seasons, The Flowers and The Arts. The pointed-arch frames, filled with mauve and pink blossoms, set the series apart from his earlier panels with their circular haloes, and the delicate colours match the mood of each hour. The four were also issued together on a single sheet.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
