Steep-roofed houses in red, rust, ochre and slate grey crowd a riverbank, with lines of bright washing strung in front of them, small yellow-rimmed boats moored below and bands of grey-brown sky and hills above. Schiele outlines every roof, window and chimney in dark paint, so the town reads almost like a patterned textile. He painted it in 1914, and its first owner was Heinrich Böhler, his student and patron, who owned seven of his oils. Rudolf Leopold acquired it in 1952. The Leopold Museum sold it at Sotheby's in London in June 2011 for £24.7 million, then an auction record for Schiele.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.

Size. We'd hang this one at 24×18. Prints at 16×12, 24×18 in — 16×12 for a shelf, desk or a gallery-wall grid; 24×18 above a console or sideboard.
Framing. The gallery ground is part of the print, so frame it without a mat — dark wood flatters the lighter palette; black sharpens it.
Pairing. Pairs as a set of three with other famous painting prints (10% off three or more).
