The poet Celia Thaxter, in a white dress, stands among hollyhocks and poppies in her garden on Appledore Island, the sea behind her. Hassam painted her there in 1892, two years before her death; her book An Island Garden, published in 1894, was illustrated with his watercolours. It is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
This print reproduces the whole work, uncropped, from a high-resolution scan of the original. The original is in the public domain.
